Child & Adolescent
Therapy

Therapy can help children and adolescents who are experiencing difficulties with their emotions or behavior. Although there are different types of therapy, each relies on communication as the basic tool for bringing about change in feelings and behaviors. Playing, drawing, building, pretending, and talking are important ways for children to share feelings and resolve problems.

Play Therapy

Play therapy utilizes the powers of play to help children resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development. It is a way of being with the child that honors their developmental level and helps them in their own "language" - play! Play therapy can help children to better express themselves and resolve their problems. It is often successful in treating behavioral problems, anxiety, depression, attention deficits, autism spectrum disorders, and social deficits. Play therapy also can help children work through anger management, grief and loss, divorce, crisis, and other trauma.

Is therapy right for my child?

Therapy helps children and adolescents in a variety of ways. They receive emotional support, resolve conflicts with people, understand feelings and problems, and try out new solutions. Goals for therapy may be specific (e.g., change in behavior, improved relations with friends or family), or more general (e.g., less anxiety, improved self-esteem). You will work together with the therapist to determine goals for therapy, as these goals are always individualized to the unique needs of the child.
